I headed out west today to the Roanoke River to do some Striper fishing with a buddy of mine Tim. We left the beach at 4am. and was on the water by 7. Takes a few hours to get there but if you don't get to the ramp early you will be sitting forever trying to get in the water. We tried with jigs for a few hours with no avail so we called the local tackle shop and they brought us some Shad minnows down to us, pretty good service. As we waited for the minnows we saw a guy standing at the ramp with a Hardees bag full of food so we traded a little fishing for some breakfast, not a bad deal. He said his name was Tracey, so that's what I called him, come to find out he owns the local Discount Tire shop there in Roanoke Rapids and was a pretty good guy. We went about fishing and had a pretty good day until we ran out minnows, we caught about 15 Fat daddys. If your planning on going make sure you get enough bait before you go as all the shops ran out. It's best if you run up to Lake Gaston catch them yourself we just didn't have the time to do so.

I had the pleasure to fish with Tom and Pete today on a slick calm morning. That all went away quick though as the wind decided to pick up on us. I headed to my Striper hole to find a 12degree water temp. drop and muddy water from the NE wind we have been having the last few days. I kept my hopes up but it didn't work out for the best. We did land one small Striper and then went looking for cleaner, warmer water. We found both but there was no takers today. I had a blast fishing with you guys and look forward to doing it again.

Thanks,
Capt. Marc

I was able to slip out for a few hours today to do a little scouting. After running around and finding cold and dirty water I found some nice warm water and it was loaded with Striper. We had 20 of them in 3 hours. They were all schoolies with 4 of them being over 18". Ended up being a good day of fishing and was nice to finally catch more than just one or two as well. We caught the fish on just about everything we threw as well.

The new fishing season is here, along with the warm weather, and it's time to get on the water! I want to thank everybody that fished with me last year. It was wonderful meeting all of my new fishermen and women and it was great fishing with my regulars as well. It was an awesome season and this year looks to be another great one as well. We had a decent winter with some nice Drum fishing, so I'm hoping that will continue for us. The summer dates are starting to book up so you need to call ahead. I look forward to fishing with everyone again this year and meeting more new faces.
