Today was definitely a day to remember for all kinds of reasons. I met Capt. Ray at his house around 6:15 and headed to the docks, we left from there, all was good and then the fog set in. It was supposed to burn off early according to the weatherman. We headed North, which turned out to be a long, slow journey but well worth it. We had a small clearing around KDh but that was it, the bait is everywhere, the birds are diving and the fish are right along with them. We couldn't stay on them due to the fog, you could see roughly 15-20 yards around you, if you were lucky. We would listen for the birds and head that direction and catch a few fish and move on. We ended up catching 18 or so Rocks, which was good for the conditions. This is were the fun starts. We had a 50 mile run back, not bad, but due to the fog it took 4 hours to get to the trailer. The ride back wasn't bad, the inlet was a different story. Just our luck, the GPS decided to lose our trail and anyone who travels that path through the inlet knows it changes daily. We just missed the convoy that gathered to go through it, so we waited and went through with Rock Solid. I want to thank Aaron Kelly for his patience while waiting on us so we could find him. I'm not joking when I say it was foggy, by this point you could cast further than you could see. We finally made it under the bridge. We worked our way through the crack, very slowly, made the turn and BAM, wind blew us up on the bar. With no luck getting off, it was time to join the Polar Bear Club. Not bad...water was 45, the air was in the 5o's. We got the boat off the bar after 10 minutes or so and BAM, right back on it. So strip down again to rejoin the club for a second time. We got the boat off the bar again, by this time I was numb. We crossed the channel next to Aaron, when the Coast Guard went past us on a search and rescue. There was one boat with a broken GPS out at the bar. We and Rock Solid had looked earlier for the lost boat, but to no avail. That's when we called in the big guns.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...

Thanks for a great year of fishing and fun, I got to met alot of great and interesting people this year that always made for great trips. The fishing is coming and going right now. As long as you don't mind a making a good run you can catch some fish. Hey, whats 30 or 40 miles when it comes to fishing, no big deal for what you get in return. Thanks again for a great year and looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

Fishing has been hit and miss down here for the past few weeks. The stripers will bite one day and take the rest of the week off, just enough to get everybody out there to burn gas. The cold fronts seem to be bringing them in slowly, so that is a good thing. We were supposed to get a good blow today, but it looks like it forgot to show up? Weathermen, gotta love them, get to tell lies and get paid well for doing it. LOL
I will let you guys know when they show up in full force, remember when looking at marina reports, they have 20 boats going out and you only see two pictures of fish, do the math, not that great of fishing like they make it look. I have a Striper tournament next week in Va. Beach, I'll let ya know how we do then. Have a good week.
Here is a picture of things to come, hopefully real soon....

Today is a beautiful 34 degrees and snowing like crazy. Not much stuck to the ground, but it was nice seeing it. We can use all we can get if we want the rock to show up in full force this season. I went out yesterday for a few hours, the water was 46 in the sound, and the fish had lock jaw. I didn't fish a whole lot, I wanted to run the boat and get the dust off of it. I spoke with a few other captains that fished all day with no luck. I did see that one boat caught 6 nice rockfish off the bar on ells. I'm sure that place will be a zoo for the next few days. I hope everybody has a nice Thanksgiving and enjoy the time off work.

The fishing has been really hot up and down the beaches for the last week or so. The puppy drum and trout bite have been on fire. I have been out a time or two and done well on both days, catching trout and puppy drum. The drum have been up to 35" and trout up to 5-6lb range.

I went off-shore sat. with Capt. Ray, we had a good day catching yellowfin tuna and a limit of tile fish to go along with them. Sat, was supposed to be a beautiful day, which it was kinda, besides the wind that showed up. At one point I counted 76 boats out there trying there luck on the tuna. I saw alot of guys jigging them up from over 700', tiring, but alot of fun. I will be putting up reports weekly if there is anything to report.

The biggest catch ever !!!

This is the biggest catch of all time for me, she weighed 7.1 and was 20.5" long. I don't think it was a world record but it was for me. This is little Makenna Robin Kerns.

Fished again today with Troy, we were on the water by 6:30 (Dark) and it was worth it. The day was non-stop fish but the ones we caught were well worth it. We had 10 or so Trout all around 2 lbs., Drum, and some nice Flounder to top it off. The Flounder went 3.6lbs. and 2.9lbs, which are pretty nice for this area. Once the rain started coming down harder and harder we decided to call it a day.

Fished this afternoon out back. Started of real slow and boring, but ended up being a decent afternoon. We ended up catching striper, flounder, drum, and trout. Needless to say I lost the biggest trout I have hooked this year, he had some size to him, thought it was drum at first, I was wrong. Anyways I will be back out there 6:30 tomorrow morning.

10-8-08

I went fun fishing today with my buddy Troy, we put alot of miles on the boat today. It ended up being a really good day on the water with about 30 or so trout up to 3 lbs., striper, blues, and drum for the day. We covered alot water just exploring and looking for new holes. Had a good day and look foward to the next time.

Today was a perfect day to be on the water, cool temps and light wind. Here is Jim with one the speckled trout we caught along with greys and flounder. The fishing was little slow, but the day made up for it. Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend, I know I did.

No report to post today. I have been out of town fishing here and there. It has been windy here for the last 2 weeks. I am heading out Monday to see what's going on out there, I'm sure the water will be very muddy and grassy but Oh'well, beats working. The downtime has given plenty of time to get ready for the little one, who knows, it could be here any day now. I'll keep you posted.

9-5-08

I have fished the last couple days for fun, kinda stinks everyone is back to work or school, the fishing is hot. The trout have been unbelievable to go along with the flounder and drum fishing. In the last few days I have caught trout, drum, flounder and stripers. The reports will be slowing down due to few charters this time of year. I will be posting them as I go out or hear of something good. Looks like I will be able to fish in the front yard before long, the rain is here from Hana Montana and is coming down. Try to stay dry.

WINDY, WINDY, WINDY, that sums up today !!! That didn't stop the crew I had today, Casey, Steve, Jeff, Jr., and Pops were at the ramp early and ready to fish. We made our way to the grounds, not with out adventure, we got talking about duck hunting and kinda took a detour first that was a little sandy, once we got out of that we started catching the trout. The wind was blowing 15-20 NNE all day, so that made it interesting. We had 35 or so keeper trout today along with a few nice blues here and there. Some how we managed to catch a little Gag Grouper as well, something different, that is for sure. I sure am glad Steve and Casey were there today, they kinda showed us how to catch them. Thanks guys, had a great time and look forward to next time.

Florida Fishing

Here are a few more pics from my Florida trip. I wasn't able to get them all on one blog. I forgot to mention that other than the Tarpon the other 94 or so fish were caught on one drift.

Florida Tarpon Fishing

Here a few pics from last month while I was down in Florida visiting family. While I was there my dad, nephew and myself made a few trips to the Indian River, which is a few miles from his house and is an absolute fish haven. While I was there met up with a rep from DOA Lures and he gave us the baits we needed and the direction we needed to head to catch fish. We caught well over a hundred fish one morning including Tarpon, Lookdown's, Pompano's, Ladyfish, Snapper, Specks(up to 5 1/2 lbs), and a few more I have never heard of. All fish were caught on plastics and topwater besides the Tarpon. We had a blast, we were using med. action trout rods with 15lb. braid with 30lb. fluorocarbon litre. Anyone heading that way let me know and I can set you up with one of the best there is down there.

Had an Awesome morning on the water today with B-Rad and Austin. He told B-rad sounded a lot cooler than Brad!! We had perfect conditions today, slick calm with a ripple here and there. We had our limit within the first hour and continued catching them on after. I pulled out a top water plug and they were killing it until one decided that he wanted it more than we did. They (the fish) were hitting the plug clear out of the water and kept coming back for it. We were catching two at a time every other cast for at least 45 minutes to an hour. After all of that fun B-RAD wanted to catch a flounder so we moved on to try and find him one, and one is what we found. He caught one that went around 17 inches, I'm sure he will be frying that one up for din din. Today was an absolute perfect day for fishing down here and we don't see that everyday. We threw jigs and jerk baits all day to catch what we did and man was it a blast.

Had great day on the water today with Birthday boy Brent, along with his mom, dad and brother. Once again the wind was howling but that didn't stop them from wearing out the trout. Nobody counted today but we were surely in the 40's by the end of the trip. Had a lot of double up action today with fish up to 2 1/2 lbs. That is always a good fight. Along with the trout we caught Bluefish up to 2lbs. Had a great time today with the Funkhousers and look forward to next time.

8-21-08

Had a great day on the water today with Scott, Christian and Justin. There was a lot of smack being talked by the boys, but they backed it up. We were throwing some new DOA lures that I picked up down in Florida and man can they catch fish. We ended up with 25 or so Specks up to 2 1/2 lbs today with a few double ups as well. Along with the trout we caught a few blues up to 2 lbs as well. We left there and went on to catch a few more fish along with a nice little drum to finish the day out.

8-20-08

Had the pleasure to fish with Frank and James today. They had never caught a Speckled trout before so we went looking. They picked the right day for it, it was on fire. We caught a quick 12 fish for the table and threw the rest back. We caught well over 30 trout up to 3lbs today and that was leaving them biting to go flounder fishing. We caught some flounder, no keepers though. We only spent about 30 minutes doing that and then went looking for some drum, saw a few, but had no luck catching them. All in all it was a great day fishing, little windy but they were chomping. We could have easily caught 60 or so trout.

8-18-08 Trout fishing

Went out today looking for new places to fish with a buddy of mine, didn't do to bad. We found one spot that we were catching trout every other cast, short lived though. Had a good time and am ready for more.

Kingfish Tourney

I fished a Kingfish tourney this weekend with some friends down in Sneads Ferry, N.C., Didn't win anything but here is a pic of one of the fish we caught. It was 16lbs., only about 30 some short of winning. I think we finished around 35 or so out of 160. Had fun, that is all that matters.

August 14th

Went fun fishing this afternoon for an hour or so with some friends that were in town and my neighbor Mr. Jack. Started slow but picked up quickly as we found a school of small puppy drum wondering around. Ended up with a few drum and nice trout. This trips main goal was to allow the little ones to go on a boat ride, which they loved and catch a few fish . Anytime you can take a kid fishing jump on the opportunity.

August 12

Had the pleasure to fish with Keith and his sons today, they wanted something that would tug, so we went out looking for more donkeys. We hooked 12 and got 4 or 5 to the boat. They were laying on the bottom and by time you got hooked up the line was frayed pretty good.

August 13

Here is Mr. Clay man, I'm not quite sure what part of the beach he caught this on, he wouldn't tell me. Looks like he had his hands full, I hear he had another that was over 30lbs as well.

MR. SHORT

Here is a pic that was in the lost and found. I fished with Chris and family a few weeks back during the tropical storm. It took awhile to get where we were going, but once we were there it paid off, I think we had 15 or so keeper trout and a flounder.

August 8th

Fished with Danny and his crew today, the wind had a mind of it's own. We made the best of it, came away with 38 nice keeper trout. Just about all of the trout were in the 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. range. Made the best of it and had a great day.

Here is a pic I didn't get on from the Thursday trip.

August 7th

I had the pleasure to fish with Bill Bean on Thursday, a flyrod legend when it comes to saltwater. I ran him out into the blue to hook up with a few donkeys "amberjack". We caught and released well over 30 of them. Overall had great day on the water.

July and August fishing report

The past two months have been hit or miss. We have had a bad run of SW wind for the last month, that hasn't helped the fishing. Overall it has been ok. I have had some great trips and some so so trips as far as the fishing goes. Everyone that I have fished with has been great and we all have had a good time. The trout are really starting to pick up here within the last two weeks. We have been getting 20 to 40 keepers per trip, and they keep getting fatter as the days go by. I am going to try my best to keep up with the fishing report. I have finally found a way to report it easily. Here are som pics from the past trips. Hope you enjoy them.
